Windshield visor strip installation instructions
You will need:
A spray bottle of water. (For a more forgiving install, you can add a drop of dish soap, and shake well. Note: if you add soap, you may need to allow more drying time.)
Masking tape
A razor blade
A vinyl squeegee (included with KI Studios orders)
A towel (Blue Shop towels or microfibers are great)
Step 1:
Start off by cleaning the windshield with a 50% alcohol and water solution paying special attention to edges along the rubber seal. If you don't have alcohol, windex will do.
Step 2:
Use masking tape to hold the vinyl in position. I place 3 pieces of tape on the roof so I am not reaching for it later. Estimate the desired width you would like and tape the strip in place.
Step 3:
Measure from the top of the windshield to the bottom of the strip to make sure it is even on both sides and adjust if necessary.
Step 4:
Use a 3rd piece of tape to hinge the decal down the center, allowing you to work with one side at a time.
Step 5:
Peel half of the decal and cut the backing paper at the center of the windshield.
Step 6:
Wipe away any paper dust that may remain from cutting the backing paper.
Step 7:
Spray the windshield and sticky side of the vinyl with a 1 drop soap and water solution being careful not to get the remaining backing paper wet.
Step 8:
Lay the vinyl flat and firmly squeegee from the center out to remove the water. Make sure to tuck the vinyl all the way into the edges by going back over it with the squeegee then repeat with the other side.
Step 9:
Carefully remove the mask layer by keeping it flat against the windshield as you peel.
Step 10:
Go over the edges of the vinyl to make sure the vinyl is tucked in all the way around the windshield.
Step 11:
Carefully trim along the outside of the windshield using a razor blade and remove the excess vinyl.
Step 12:
Dry the windshield before applying the next layer.
Step 13:
Fold the lettering in half and make a crease to find you center point. Line the crease up to the center mark of the rear view mirror and tape in place.
Step 14:
Measure from the bottom of the strip to the bottom of the letters on each side to make sure the decal is straight.
Step 15:
Repeat steps 2-9. Tape in place, measure each side, and apply one side at a time making sure not to get the remaining backing paper wet. Squeegee from the center out and carefully remove the transfer tape keeping it flat on the windshield as you peel.
